This bulky-weight crochet cardigan features multiple colors and striping techniques, all while utilizing one of my personal favorite stitches. It is so cozy and a delight to create!
Materials
Approximately 850(1045, 1300, 1550, 1900) yards or 770(950, 1160, 1380, 1660) grams of bulky weight yarn. Sample uses Hobbii Amigo Chunky in the colorways A38, A39, A26
10.00 mm crochet hook
Scissors, yarn needle
Gauge
5 stitches by 4 rows = 2 inches in linen/moss stitch

sc: single crochet
ea: each
sp: space

sl st: slip stitch
rem: remaining
FO: finish off
Choosing Your Size
This oversized cardigan is written in five sizes, distributed as XS(S, M, L, XL). Each size is designed to fit bust sizes 28-36(36-44, 44-52, 52-60, 60-68) inches, with 6-14 inches of positive ease per size. The finished bust measurements are 42(50, 58, 66, 74) inches. I recommend choosing the size that best suits your negative/positive ease preferences.

The ch 2 at the beginning of each row does counts as a stitch/ch 1 sp, so work into it at the end of each row.
When working in the round, the ch1/slst does not count as a stitch.
Back Panel
ch 53(63, 73, 83, 93)
Row 1: sc in the third ch from the hook, *sk 1, ch 1, sc in the next st* across
Row 2: ch 2 and turn. *sk 1, ch 1, sc in the next ch 1 sp* across.
Repeat Row 2 until you have worked 48(52, 56, 60, 64) rows, or until the back panel is your desired length.
Striping: Change colors whenever you like! Sample pictured features 2-row stripes in three different colors. If you’re using three or less colors, I recommend carrying up the yarn along the side of the panel instead of cutting the yarn each time.
Final Row: ch 1 and turn. sc in ea st and ch across. FO
Front Panels
Make Two
ch 25(29, 35, 39, 45)
Row 1: sc in the third ch from the hook, *sk 1, ch 1, sc in the next st* across
Row 2: ch 2 and turn. *sk 1, ch 1, sc in the next ch 1 sp* across.
Repeat Row 2 until you have worked the same number of rows as for the back panel. Change colors in the same manner, or differently! FO
Seaming
Feel free to substitute your preferred seaming method for this technique.
Lay the pieces flat, with the solid sc rows at the top to form the shoulders.
Using the mattress stitch, seam across the shoulders. Work in each stitch, leaving the few center back sts open for the neck.
Next, seam up one side of the cardigan until 6(7, 8, 9, 10) inches remain. Secure the tail, then repeat these instructions for the opposite side of the cardigan.
Border
The border addition is completely optional, but provides a clean finish.
Join the yarn to any st along the bottom of the back panel.
Round 1: sc evenly around the entire cardigan, working across the hem, and up and round the front panels and neck. Place 3 sc sts in ea corner. FO
Sleeves
Repeat for both sleeves
Join the yarn to any st along either armhole.
Setup Round(RS): ch 1, and sc evenly around the armhole. End with a number divisible by two. slst to the first st.
Round 2(WS): ch 1 and turn. *sc in the next st, ch 1, sk 1* around. slst to the first st.
Round 3: ch 1 and turn. *sc in the ch 1 sp, ch 1, sk 1* around. slst to the first st.
Repeat Round 3 until the sleeve is your desired length, changing colors however you’d like. Be sure to carry your yarn on the *inside* of the sleeve. Sample pictured changed colors every two rounds. End on a RS round.
Decrease Round(do not turn): ch 1, sc in ea ch 1 sp around, skipping every sc st. slst to the first st.
Final Round(do not turn): ch 1, sc in ea st around. FO
Finishing
Weave in any ends you may have remaining. If you decide to block your cardigan, I recommend pinning it out on blocking mats gently, spritz with water, and either steam block or let air dry. The sample pictured is not blocked.
