This blanket is designed to be created to be ANY size with any yarn and gauge. It features the half double crochet stitch worked corner-to-corner style, and is the most enjoyable and mindless blanket to make ever! Gift it to someone special, or add it to any special place within your own home.
Materials
Approximately 540 yards/300 grams of any worsted weight yarn. Sample uses Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Cotton in Dove
6.00mm crochet hook
Scissors and a yarn needle
Gauge
5 stitches and 5 rows = 2 inches half double crochet worked flat
Abbreviations
ch: chain
hdc: half double crochet
hdc2(3)tog: half double crochet 2(3) stitches together
sc: single crochet
rem: remaining
ea: each
*...*: repeat the instructions in the asterisks
st(s): stitch(es)
Pattern Notes
While this pattern is written for a specific size with a specific gauge, I encourage you to make it your own! Increase for half the yarn you want to use, then use the second half to decrease. Choose a hook that will result in a loose gauge with your chosen yarn. Have FUN!
Sample pictured measures 30” square, and was increased to 91 sts before decreasing.
Blanket
Ch 2
Row 1
hdc 3 in the second ch from the hook.
Increase Row
ch 1 and turn. hdc 2 in the first st, hdc in ea st until one st rem, hdc 2 in the last st.
Repeat the Increase Row until the blanket is your desired width.
Decrease Row
ch 1 and turn. hdc2tog, hdc in ea st until two sts rem, hdc2tog.
Repeat the Decrease Row until three sts remain.
Final Row
ch 1 and turn. hdc3tog. FO
Border
Feel free to leave the blanket as is, or add any border you like.
Join yarn to any space around the perimeter of the blanket.
Round 1
hdc 3 in every row around the blanket to result in a scalloped edge. Work 5 hdc sts in ea corner. slst to the first st to join. FO
Finishing
Pull through the last st, cut yarn, and weave in any ends.
