Pattern Notes:
Check out this beautiful cotton yarn here!
The ch 2 at the beginning of each row does NOT count as a stitch.
This cowl starts by working flat to form the triangle. You’ll then join to work in the round to form the cowl neck. This method results in zero seaming!
The ch 1 counts as a stitch in the lace rows/rounds.
The ch 3 counts as a double crochet stitch.
When finished, this cowl measures approximately 13 inches wide by 24 inches deep, laid flat.
Cowl:
Ch 3
Row 1: dc 3 into the third ch from the hook. Ch 2 and turn. (3 sts)
Rows 2-3: dc 2 in the first st, dc in ea st until one st remains, dc 2 in the last st. ch 2 and turn. (5 sts)
Row 4: [dc, ch 1, dc] in the first st, *ch 1, sk 1, dc in the next st* until two sts remain, [dc, ch 1, dc] in the last st. ch 2 and turn. (11 sts)
Row 5: dc 2 in the first st, dc in ea st and ch until one st remains, dc 2 in the last st. ch 2 and turn (13 sts)
Rows 6-29: repeat rows 2-5
Do not ch 2 and turn after completing row 29
Proceed to Cowl Body instructions
Cowl Body:
Turn your work, and fold the triangle piece in such a way that allows you to slip stitch to the first dc you worked on Row 29. (refer to photo below)
You’re now working in the round to form the cowl neck. You will continue to ch 2 and turn upon completing each row so that the triangle and cowl portions match. Remember that the slip stitch does not count as a stitch. Instead, work into the same stitch as the ch 2 for the last stitch of every round. (refer to photo below)
Round 1: ch 2 and turn, dc in ea st, ss to the first dc. (73 sts)
Round 2: ch 2 and turn, dc in ea st around, ss to the first dc. (73 sts)
Round 3: ch 3 and turn, *ch 1, skip one dc, dc in the next st* until one st remains, dc in the last st, slip stitch to the top of the ch 3. (73 sts)
Round 4: ch 2 and turn, dc in ea st and ch around, ss to the first dc. (73 sts)
Round 5: ch 2, dc in ea st, ss to the first dc. (73 sts)
Round 6: dc in ea st around, then ss to the first st. Do not chain or turn. (73 sts)
Round 7: slip stitch loosely in each st around, then ss once more into the first ss. (73 sts)
f/o, weave in your ends, and enjoy your cowl!
