Koi Shawl | Free Crochet Pattern

Designed in collaboration with Koi Fish Fibers, this shawl features gorgeous hand-dyed yarn, a simple stitch pattern, and a beautiful fade. This shawl is the perfect mindless project for any day, and is a joy to create.

Materials:

  • 1 hank each of Koi Fish Fibers Super Sock in the colorways Caramel Popcorn (C1), Sonoran Sunrise (C2), and Sonoran Sunset (C3), or approximately 300 yards each of three different colors of any fingering weight yarn

  • Size 4.00 mm crochet hook

  • Scissors

  • Yarn needle

  • Ruler to check gauge if desired

Gauge:

It is not necessary to achieve a certain gauge for this pattern. However, if you’re limited on yarn or want the same dimensions as the sample, I suggest checking.

18 stitches and 9 rows = 4 inches in double crochet, worked flat

Abbreviations:

ch: chain

dc: double crochet

ss: slip stitch

sk: skip

C1: color 1

C2: color 2

C3: color 3

st(s): stitch(es)

f/o: finish off

Pattern Notes:

  • This pattern utilizes the increase section of the c2c (corner to corner) double crochet stitch. Check out this video for a basic tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKbSORBFQ3c

  • Follow this tutorial for switching colors in crochet: https://www.instagram.com/tv/CCY_3AoJtjM/

  • For this pattern, the end of row stitch count is the number of blocks the row contains.

  • Each block consists of the ch3 and 3 double crochet stitches.

  • When worked to pattern, your shawl will measure approximately 22” deep by 55” wide.
