Patches Blanket | Free Crochet Pattern

This cozy blanket holds endless possibilities for making it so special! Use only a few colors for a paneled look, scraps for a more patchwork look, or any combo inbetween. Have fun and create the perfect addition to any living space!



Materials

  • Approximately 550 grams/1200 yards of any worsted weight yarn. Sample uses Hobbii Tweed Delight

  • 7.0mm crochet hook

  • Scissors, yarn needle

Gauge

3 stitches and 2 rows = 1 inch in half double crochet worked flat


Abbreviations

ch: chain

hdc: half double crochet

sc: single crochet

slst(s): slip stitch(es)

f/o: finish off

st(s): stitch(es)

  • The slip stitches do not count as a stitch.

  • When worked to pattern, this blanket measures approximately 40” by 45”.

  • This pattern is written with specific gauge, stitch, and row counts for you to easily follow along with, but note that it can easily be adjusted to be ANY size with any yarn and gauge!

Panel One

ch 22

Row 1 (RS)

hdc in the second ch from the hook, and in ea st across.

Row 2 (WS)

ch 1 and turn. hdc in ea st across.


Repeat Row 2 until you’ve worked 78 rows, or until the panel is your desired length for the entire blanket. Switch colors whenever you like.


Panel Two

With the RS facing, join yarn to the base of the foundation chain on Row 1 from the previous panel. Ch 22.

Row 1

hdc in the second ch from the hook, and in ea ch across.

Row 2

slst up two rows along the previous panel and ch 1 and turn. hdc in ea st across.

Row 3

ch 1 and turn. hdc in ea st across.


Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until you’ve reached the end of the previous panel. Slst once more to previous panel to join, and FO. Remember to switch colors whenever desired!


Repeat Panel Two Instructions until you’ve completed 5 panels, or until the blanket is as wide as desired. You could also chain a different number of stitches at the foundation chain to alter the width of each panel! Cut yarn and weave in any ends before proceeding to the border.


Border

Join yarn to any stitch along the outside of the blanket.


Round 1

sc evenly around the blanket, placing 3 sc sts in ea corner. slst to the first st to join.


Round 2

ch 1, sc in ea st around. Place 3 sc sts in ea corner. slst to the first st to join.


Finishing

Cut any attached yarn, weave in your ends, and block if desired.
