Crossed Paths Dishcloth | Free Crochet Pattern

Writer's picture: Amy Kate SutherlandAmy Kate Sutherland

The next dishcloth in the Spring Dishcloth Collection features the double crochet stitch, with a fun twist. Like most dishcloths, it is quick and easy to make. Follow along with the video tutorial or the written pattern!

Materials:

  • Approximately 32 grams/65 yards of any cotton yarn (sample uses WeCrochet Dishie in Blush)

  • Size H (5.5mm) crochet hook

  • Scissors

  • Yarn Needle to weave in ends

  • Ruler to check gauge if desired

Gauge:

It is not necessary to achieve a certain gauge for this project, but if you want the same dimensions as the sample I suggest checking.

14 double crochet stitches by 6 rows = 4 inches in double crochet worked flat

Abbreviations:

ch: chain

sc: single crochet

dc: double crochet

sk: skip

st(s): stitch(es)

f/o: finish off

ea: each

*...*: repeat the designated number of times

Pattern Notes:

  • Find the yarn used for the sample here.

  • Follow along with the full video tutorial: https://youtu.be/W-WrIDznX4Y

  • The ch 2 at the beginning of each row does not count as a stitch. This is the turning chain, and will allow the edges to remain nice and straight.

  • When worked to pattern, this dishcloth measures approximately 8 inches by 8 inches.

Dishcloth:

Ch 28

Row 1: dc in the third ch from the hook *sk 1 ch, dc in next ch, go back and dc into the skipped ch* until one ch remains, dc into the last ch. (26 sts)

Row 2: ch 2 and turn. Dc into ea st across. (26 sts)

Row 3: ch 2 and turn. Dc into the first st *sk 1 st, dc into the next st, go back and dc into the skipped st* until one st remains, dc in last st. (26 sts)

Rows 4-13: repeat rows 2 and 3 (26 sts)

If you would like to make your dishcloth shorter/longer, simply repeat rows 2 and 3 less/more times.

Do not f/o, proceed to finishing

Finishing:

Continuing from your last Row 3 repeat.

sc around the entire dishcloth by placing 2 sc sts into each row on each side, 3 sc sts in each of the corners, and 1 sc st in each stitch (or chain) on the top/bottom of the dishcloth. Once you come back to the ch 1, place 3 sc sts into that corner, then slip stitch to the first sc st.

f/o and enjoy your new dishcloth!

Until next time,

Amy Kate
